How to unsubscribe from eBay emails
The fastest way to unsubscribe from eBay emails is in Communication Preferences: sign in at ebay.com, hover over your name, choose Account Settings → Communication Preferences, scroll to Marketing Communications, click Edit, and unsubscribe from all. The trap is that marketing is only one of eBay's email machines - saved search alerts, watched item reminders, and seller tips all mail from their own settings, so the marketing switch alone rarely silences an active eBay account. This guide covers each stream in turn.

Method 1: Communication Preferences on ebay.com
- Sign in at ebay.com and hover over your name in the top-left corner.
- Select Account Settings, then Communication Preferences.
- Scroll to Marketing Communications and click Edit.
- Choose to unsubscribe from all marketing emails, or untick categories selectively - eBay splits them into buyer-side promotions and seller-side promotions and tips.
- Save. eBay's help center covers the same route in its "Minimizing unwanted email" article.
Method 2: kill the saved search alerts
This is the stream people miss. Every saved search with email alerts on sends its own daily digest of new listings, and none of it lives under Marketing Communications. Go to My eBay → Saved Searches and either switch off the email alert on each search or delete the searches outright. If you saved searches years ago, this is almost certainly where the "why is eBay still emailing me" mystery ends. Watched items behave the same way - ending-soon reminders for anything on your watch list are tied to the list itself, so prune the watch list if those reminders are the noise you are trying to stop.
Method 3: the app and the footer link
In the eBay app, open My eBay → Settings and untick the email categories - buyer promotions, buying activities, and seller promotions and tips. The app only exposes part of the grid, so finish on the website. Alternatively, the footer Unsubscribe link in any eBay marketing email opts you out of that category without a login, and Gmail surfaces it as a one-click button.
Verify it actually stopped
With marketing, saved searches, and activity mail running as separate machines, the only real test is whether the mail stops arriving. ClearMyInbox re-checks the sender about 30 days after your opt-out and labels it confirmed stopped or still emailing - genuinely useful for eBay, where a single forgotten saved search reopens the tap. If a stream survives, filter the specific ebay.com sender rather than the whole domain so outbid and order notices still get through.
What stays on: bids, orders, and member messages
Purchase confirmations, payment receipts, shipping updates, outbid notices, and messages from other members are transactional activity mail. eBay keeps sending them after every marketing toggle is off, and there is no setting to stop them entirely - they only fire when something happens on your account, which is the point.
The rest of the marketplace flood
An inbox with eBay in it usually has the other marketplaces too. Etsy runs a near-identical split of marketing versus shop-owner mail, Amazon layers Prime and recommendation streams on top, and the whole category cleanup is in our guide to stopping shopping emails.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I still getting eBay emails after unsubscribing from marketing?▾
Usually it is a saved search. Daily alerts for searches you saved live outside Marketing Communications entirely - open your Saved Searches in My eBay and turn off email alerts for each one. Watched item, bid, and order emails are activity mail and also unaffected by the marketing opt-out.
How do I stop eBay saved search email alerts?▾
Go to My eBay, open Saved Searches, and for each search switch off the email alert (or delete the search). Each saved search is its own subscription, so one leftover search keeps mailing you daily even after every marketing toggle is off.
What is the difference between buyer promotions and seller promotions on eBay?▾
eBay splits marketing by role. Buyer promotions are deals and recommendations aimed at shoppers; seller promotions and tips target people who list items. If you have ever sold on eBay you are probably on both, and each has its own toggle under Communication Preferences and in the app email settings.
Will unsubscribing stop order, bid, and payment emails?▾
No. Purchase confirmations, payment receipts, shipping updates, outbid notices, and messages from buyers or sellers are transactional activity mail. They continue after any marketing opt-out and only fire when something actually happens on your account.
Can I manage eBay email preferences in the mobile app?▾
Partially. The app exposes email toggles under My eBay, then Settings, covering categories like buyer promotions, buying activities, and seller promotions and tips. For the full Marketing Communications grid, eBay points you to Communication Preferences on the website under Account Settings.
