Email Provider Help

Having trouble connecting your email? Find your provider below or check the troubleshooting tips.

What's an app password?

An app password is a special password that lets third-party apps (like ClearMyInbox) access your email without using your main account password. Many email providers require this for security, especially if you have two-factor authentication enabled.

App passwords are separate from your regular password - they only work for the specific app you created them for. You can revoke them anytime from your email provider's security settings without affecting your main account.

Can't connect?

Find your email provider below for step-by-step connection instructions.

iCloud Mail
  1. 1
Go to Apple ID: Visit appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID Open →
  2. 2
Find App Passwords: Click 'Sign-In and Security' → 'App-Specific Passwords'
  3. 3
Generate Password: Click the + button → Name it 'ClearMyInbox' → Click 'Create'
  4. 4
Copy Password: Copy the generated password (format: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx)

This is different from your Apple ID password. Apple requires a separate app password for each third-party app.

AOL Mail
  1. 1
Go to AOL Account Security: Visit login.aol.com/account/security Open →
  2. 2
Generate App Password: Click 'Generate app password' → Select 'Other App' → Name it 'ClearMyInbox'
  3. 3
Copy Password: Copy the generated password and paste it below

AOL requires an app-specific password when two-factor authentication is enabled.

Yahoo Mail
  1. 1
Go to Yahoo Account Security: Visit login.yahoo.com/account/security and sign in Open →
  2. 2
Turn on 2-step verification: 2-step verification must be enabled before Yahoo will let you generate app passwords. Skip this step if it’s already on.
  3. 3
Generate App Password: Scroll to 'Generate app password' → 'Get started' → Name it 'ClearMyInbox' → 'Generate'
  4. 4
Copy Password: Copy the 16-character password Yahoo shows (no spaces) and paste it below. Yahoo only shows it once.

Yahoo no longer offers OAuth Mail to new apps, so we connect via IMAP with an app-specific password. Your regular Yahoo password will not work.

Fastmail
  1. 1
Go to Fastmail Settings: Open Settings → Privacy & Security → App Passwords Open →
  2. 2
Create App Password: Click 'New App Password' → Name it 'ClearMyInbox' → Select IMAP access
  3. 3
Copy Password: Copy the generated password

Fastmail app passwords can be managed from your security settings. Each app gets its own password.

ProtonMail
  1. 1
Install ProtonMail Bridge: Download and install ProtonMail Bridge from proton.me/mail/bridge Open →
  2. 2
Start Bridge: Open ProtonMail Bridge and sign in with your Proton account
  3. 3
Copy Bridge Password: In Bridge, click your account → copy the password shown (not your Proton password)

ProtonMail requires the Bridge app running on your computer. The Bridge password is different from your Proton account password. Bridge connects on localhost (127.0.0.1) port 1143.

Zoho Mail
  1. 1
Enable IMAP: In Zoho Mail, go to Settings → Mail Accounts → IMAP Access → Enable
  2. 2

  3. 3
Generate App Password: Click 'Generate New Password' → Name it 'ClearMyInbox'

You must enable IMAP access in Zoho Mail settings before generating an app password.

GMX

Enable IMAP: Go to GMX Settings → POP3/IMAP → Enable IMAP access

  2. 2
Use Regular Password: Mail.com uses your regular email password for IMAP access

Make sure IMAP access is enabled in your Mail.com settings.

Yandex Mail
  1. 1
Enable IMAP: Go to Yandex Mail Settings → Email clients → Enable "From the imap.yandex.com server" Open →
  2. 2
Create App Password: Go to Yandex ID → Security → App Passwords → Create new password Open →
  3. 3

  2. 2
Enable Third-Party Access: Go to Email Settings → Security → Allow access from third-party apps

You may need to enable third-party email access in your Xfinity account security settings.

AT&T Mail
  1. 1
Sign in to AT&T: Go to att.com and sign in to your account Open →
  2. 2
Generate Secure Mail Key: Go to Profile → Sign-in info → Secure Mail Key → Manage
  3. 3
Create Mail Key: Click 'Create secure mail key' to generate a password for third-party apps
  4. 4
Copy Mail Key: Copy the generated mail key

AT&T requires a "Secure Mail Key" instead of your regular password for third-party email access.

My email provider isn't listed

If your email provider isn't listed above, you can still connect using manual IMAP settings. You'll need these details from your email provider:

  • IMAP server address - usually something like imap.yourprovider.com
  • Port - usually 993 (with SSL) or 143 (without SSL)
  • Password - your email password, or an app-specific password if your provider supports them

Where to find these settings: Search for "[your provider] IMAP settings" or check your email provider's help pages. Your IT department can provide these for work email accounts.

Connection keeps failing?

Run through this checklist:

  • Are you using the right password type? - Many providers require an app password, not your regular login password. Check the provider instructions above.
  • Is IMAP access enabled? - Some providers disable IMAP by default. Check your email provider's settings for an "IMAP" or "Third-party access" option and make sure it's turned on.
  • Do you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled? - If yes, you almost certainly need an app password. Your regular password won't work when 2FA is on.
  • Is the server address correct? - Double-check the IMAP server hostname. Common mistakes: using "smtp" (that's for sending) instead of "imap", or typos in the address.
  • Is port 993 correct? - Port 993 is standard for IMAP over SSL. If your provider uses a different port, you'll need to enter it manually.
  • For ProtonMail: Is Bridge running? - ProtonMail requires the ProtonMail Bridge desktop app running on your computer. Make sure it's started and you're using the Bridge password, not your Proton account password.
