How to unsubscribe from Tumblr emails

To unsubscribe from Tumblr emails, head to tumblr.com/settings/notifications on the web and work through two layers of controls: a pencil icon beside each of your blogs opens that blog's activity email toggles, and a separate Tumblr News switch at the bottom governs the trending-topics and recommendation digests. Method 1: the per-blog email toggles on the web

1. Sign in at tumblr.com and open Settings from the account menu, then Notifications - or go straight to tumblr.com/settings/notifications.
2. Click the pencil icon next to the blog you want to quiet.
3. Switch off the email toggles for the activity types you no longer want: new followers, new comments, new submissions, mentions, and new asks and answered asks.
4. Repeat for every blog on your account - sideblogs keep emailing until each one is edited.

The per-blog design is easy to misread as a bug. It is not: a writing sideblog and a fandom sideblog genuinely can want different alert levels. But it does mean "I turned my emails off" often really means "I turned one blog's emails off", and the other three carry on.

Method 2: silence the Tumblr News digests

The weekly "trending topics, interesting blogs" mail belongs to no blog at all. Scroll past the blog list on the same settings page and flip the Tumblr News toggle off - that single switch covers the editorial and recommendation digests that make up most of Tumblr's promotional volume. Method 3: the unsubscribe link in the email footer

Any individual Tumblr email can be stopped from its own footer link, no login needed, and Gmail's one-click Unsubscribe button drives the same mechanism through the List-Unsubscribe header. Because the link maps back to a toggle, it is a fine way to deal with a stream one message at a time - just slower than visiting the settings page once and clearing the lot.
