How to unsubscribe from Shopify emails
Before you can unsubscribe from Shopify emails you have to answer one question: is the sender Shopify, or a shop that merely runs on Shopify? For Shopify's own marketing, the fastest exit is the footer link in any of its emails, which lands on the Manage your email preferences page at shopify.com and opts your address out. For a store's emails, the list belongs to the merchant, and the way out is the unsubscribe link in that store's own messages. The two paths never cross, and picking the wrong one is why people swear their unsubscribe "did nothing".

Merchants: silencing Shopify's own marketing
- Open any promotional email from Shopify - product announcements, event invites, partner program newsletters all qualify.
- Follow the footer unsubscribe / manage-preferences link. It opens Shopify's Manage your email preferences page, already tied to your address (the URL is tokenized per recipient, which is why there is no bookmarkable settings link to hand out).
- Opt out of the list that produced the email, and any related ones offered on the page.
- Repeat per stream if needed - the merchant newsletter and the partner or developer mail run as separate lists.
Merchants: admin notifications are a different lever
The email-per-order flood is not marketing at all. In the admin, go to Settings → Notifications and manage the staff order notifications - removing an address there stops the order pings without touching anything customer-facing. What no setting removes: payment confirmations and the critical account and billing mail. Those persist by design, and a merchant should want them to; a missed billing failure is a storefront offline.
Shoppers: mail from a Shopify-powered store
Bought a candle once, newsletters forever? That list is the merchant's property, hosted on Shopify's rails. You leave it three ways, all recognized by Shopify's subscriber management: click Unsubscribe in one of the store's emails, mark one as spam, or opt out of email marketing from your account on that store. Order confirmations and shipping updates for a purchase you actually made will still arrive - those are transactional, not list mail. Complaining to Shopify itself gets you nowhere, because the platform does not own the audience.

Clearing every store list in one sitting
Most Shopify-store mail reaches you through marketing platforms, so the sender graph gets tangled fast - a boutique's campaigns may arrive via Shopify Email while another store routes through Klaviyo (our Klaviyo unsubscribe link guide covers that footer) or through Mailchimp, whose quirks get their own treatment in how to unsubscribe from Mailchimp emails. ClearMyInbox flattens the tangle: one scan, every list, opt-outs processed in bulk. For why inboxes drift into this state at all, see email overwhelm.
The month-later audit
Merchant lists are the flakiest unsubscribes on the internet - a store can re-import an old export, sync a CRM badly, or just ignore the request. So ClearMyInbox does not file your opt-out and forget it: about a month on, it checks whether that sender actually fell silent and stamps the record Confirmed stopped or raises it as still emailing. With store mail, that follow-up is where the truth lives.

Blocking a store that will not let go
A merchant who keeps mailing after a proper opt-out has forfeited the benefit of the doubt. Mark the message as spam - Shopify counts a spam report as an unsubscribe from that store's list - or block the store's sending address outright in Gmail or Outlook. Since a shop's marketing and receipts often come from different addresses, blocking the campaign sender rarely costs you an order confirmation, but glance at the From lines before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop marketing emails from Shopify itself?▾
Open any Shopify marketing email and use the unsubscribe or manage-preferences link in the footer. It opens Shopify's "Manage your email preferences" page on shopify.com, keyed to your address, where you opt out of that mailing and related lists.
A store keeps emailing me after I bought something. Is that Shopify's doing?▾
The store runs on Shopify, but the mailing list belongs to the merchant. Shopify removes you from a store's subscriber list when you click Unsubscribe in one of its emails, mark one as spam, or opt out of marketing from your account on that store.
Can I turn off staff order notification emails in my store?▾
Yes. In the Shopify admin go to Settings, then Notifications, and manage the staff order notifications there - remove your address or a colleague's so each new order stops generating an email to people who do not need it.
Which Shopify emails cannot be switched off?▾
Essential notifications such as payment confirmations, plus critical account and billing messages. Shopify keeps these outside any preference because a merchant who misses a billing failure can lose a live storefront.
What about emails from the Shop app?▾
Shop is Shopify's consumer app and mails you on its own account - order tracking plus its own promotions. Treat it as a separate stream: its marketing messages carry their own opt-out, distinct from any individual store's list.
I am in the Partner program - can I quiet those newsletters?▾
Partner and developer newsletters are optional marketing, so the opt-out link at the bottom of each one is the route out. Program-critical account notices to partners continue like any other essential mail.
