How to unsubscribe from Strava emails

There is no single Strava mailing list to leave. Strava runs a long page of per-activity switches that splits social alerts - kudos, comments, new followers - from challenge, club and segment mail, and both of those from the newsletter. That granularity cuts both ways: you can silence exactly what annoys you, but one missed switch keeps a whole stream alive, which is why an unsubscribe here so often feels like it did nothing. The settings live at Settings → Email Notifications, and this guide covers which switches carry the volume for an active athlete and which are worth keeping. Password resets, security alerts and subscription receipts continue no matter what you untick.

Method 1: the Email Notifications page on the web

  1. Sign in at strava.com and hover over your profile picture in the upper-right corner. There is no single mailing list to leave - Strava runs a long page of per-activity switches.
  2. Choose Settings, then Email Notifications - or go directly to strava.com/settings/email.
  3. Untick the social alerts first: kudos, comments on your activities, and new follower mail generate the most volume for active athletes.
  4. Review the club, segment, and challenge options, then decide on the newsletter and marketing mail at the bottom.

The web page is the full control panel and carries far more options than the app exposes, so do this on a browser if you want to see everything Strava can send.

Method 2: from the mobile app

  1. Open the Strava app and go to the You tab.
  2. Tap the settings icon in the upper corner.
  3. Open Email Notifications and switch off the types you do not want.
  4. While you are there, check Push Notifications too - email and push are separate systems, and silencing one leaves the other running.

Method 3: the footer unsubscribe link

Every Strava marketing email ends with an unsubscribe link, and Strava lands you on a confirmation page at strava.com/email-unsubscribed once it takes. This handles one email type per click, which suits the drive-by fix; the settings page remains the only full audit. One quirk worth knowing before you go scorched-earth: Strava ties the monthly summary of your stats to the newsletter setting, so unsubscribing from everything costs you the monthly recap as well.

Method 4: bulk-unsubscribe the whole fitness pile

Athletes accumulate senders: event platforms, kit retailers, coaching newsletters, plus community mail from Meetup running groups and the odd digest from Reddit cycling subs. ClearMyInbox scans your inbox, lines every subscription sender up in one table, and processes the opt-outs in bulk - one session instead of a dozen settings pages.

When the Strava emails do not stop

Almost always it is the switch you did not see. Commenting on someone else's activity quietly subscribes you to that conversation, club admins can mail members through a different stream than segment alerts, and the newsletter is distinct from promotional offers. Recheck strava.com/settings/email top to bottom. Then verify instead of hoping: ClearMyInbox re-checks the sender about a month after your unsubscribe and labels it Confirmed stopped - or flags it as still emailing, which tells you a stream survived and the hunt is not over.

Filter or block stubborn Strava mail

A mailbox rule ends the argument. Gmail: filter on the Strava notification sender and choose Skip Inbox, so kudos chatter archives itself while anything you search for is still findable - steer clear of a domain-wide delete rule if you pay for Strava, since receipts share the domain. Outlook: Sweep the sender into a folder in one action, or demote it via Blocked senders under Junk email settings. The general approach for any repeat offender is in how to stop unwanted emails on Gmail.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the Strava email settings?

On the web, hover over your profile picture in the upper-right corner and choose Settings, then Email Notifications - the direct address is strava.com/settings/email. In the app, open the You tab, tap the settings icon, and find Email Notifications there.

How do I stop kudos and comment emails but keep challenge mail?

The email settings page gives social alerts - kudos, comments, new followers - their own switches, separate from challenge, club, and segment mail. Turn off the social alerts and leave the challenge options on. Push notifications are configured independently under Push Notifications in the app.

Why do I get an email every time someone comments on an activity I commented on?

Commenting on an activity subscribes you to its conversation, so follow-up comments from anyone generate mail. The relevant comment email setting on strava.com/settings/email switches this off; muting it does not remove your original comment.

Will turning off Strava emails stop my monthly stats summary?

It can. Strava notes that the newsletter setting must stay enabled for you to receive the monthly summaries of your stats. If you like the monthly recap, leave that option on and switch off the per-activity social alerts instead.

Does the unsubscribe link in Strava emails work?

Yes. Strava marketing and notification emails include a footer unsubscribe link, and Strava confirms the change on a page at strava.com/email-unsubscribed. The link opts you out of that email type only, so the settings page is still the place to review everything at once.

Will I still get account and payment emails from Strava?

Yes. Password resets, security alerts, and subscription receipts are transactional and continue regardless of your email notification choices. Notifications inside the Strava website, behind the bell icon, also carry on - they have no off switch.
